Another FO

This morning I woke up bright and early (read: well after the sun was up) and got to work on stitching up the side of my second legwarmer. This is the second pair of legwarmers I have made. The first is a gift, but these babies are allllll mine. I love them! They're not too heavy, knit with Red Heart's Symphony, and a bit of Geloto for accent and ties. They start at the base of the knee and end resting on the top of the foot.

I switched up the pattern a bit by starting with 40 stitches to create a wider leg than the pattern called for. I wanted them to not only look full and warm, but also prevent my pant legs from bunching up. I hate that. Also, I took the bottom turning row (purled row on the knit side)and did a *yo, k2tog* repeat instead to create some eyelets. After the top and side seams were finished, I weaved some blue gelato through the eyelets and chain stitched some more to pull through the top seam.

They're cute, too.

Next in line is going to be a scarf. I know, I know. Last week I was complaining about scarves. I made a scarf for one of my brothers. It is all black and all boring, but then it's for a boy who's personal saying might as well be function over form. Basic black, I suppose would be the name of the scarf, those I think I'd rather call it "That wretched thing that should have taken me two hours to complete, but really took two weeks, because I didn't want to work on something that completely boring." I might be wrong, but the title might be a little long to type into Rav.

Anyway, I want to knit a lace scarf from Weekend Knitting. The scarves in the picture are done in a green, purple, and blue. I'm going to substitute the yarn with one that is thinner. I still have one hank of blue silky wool left. Since, I got my birthday check from my grandpa today, I skipped over to the LYS and picked up a purple hank of silky wool. The colors are gorgeous together, plus I'll have a cute scarf to wear with my lace skirt!

Postmod Legwarmers

These will be a Christmas gift for my sister, along with a really cute cell cozy. Yes, I have already started Christmas knitting. I figure, by the time it comes around, I will be all finished and not have to rush at the last minute. We'll see how that goes, won't we?

I also started a pair for myself. It is in a lovely purple acrylic yarn. Its soft and looks a bit like mohair. The next pair is knit a bit wider and not quite as long. Plus, I have added a row of eyelets at the bottom to add some ribbon yarn.

You want, huh?

I thought I would fall out of my chair the other day, when my bf mentioned that he would like a pair of hand-knit gloves. This is the first time he has actually requested anything. Of course I have no good glove patterns in any of my current books. I'm pretty sure something lovely and lacey wouldn't be suitable, at any rate.

Solution: I will be taking a trip to Borders (oh darn... not). I still have some money left on my gift card from Christmas and I wouldn't mind spending it on some more yarn porn. I just wish that there was a guy pattern book that didn't involve a million sweaters. I mean, men have other needs too, right? And way to not promote young knitters into foolishly purchasing your books and accidentally knitting the man in their lives a sweater, only to find themselves pawns in the hands of the sweater curse! Designers are cruel. ^^

Okay, I said that not completely buying into the whole curse thing. I would never knit bf a sweater, but that's just because I know he would never wear it. The guy tries to get away with wearing shorts into the winter season and tee shirts all year round. A winter coat to him equals his jean jacket. Hence my surprise at his request.

Agenda:
Find glove pattern
Finish knitting last i-cord for pm leggies
Finish knitting cellphone cozy to match pm leggies
Decide what mats you need for gloves
Watch No Reservations and possibly Becoming Jane (even though you disliked most of it in the theater)

Postmodern Legwarmers

I started working on Stefanie Japel's Postmodern Legwarmers in mid January. I needed something to knit from stash, and I had told my sister that I would make her a pair of legwarmers some time ago. Since, winter is almost (hopefully) over and there aren't too many holidays between now and spring, I've decided to make these legwarmers and save them until next birthday/christmas. It will be like killing three birds with one stone, as the saying sort of goes.

They knitted up pretty quickly and easily. I finished most of them while watching movies or T.V. All I have left for today is to sew up the side seams and make some i-cord, both of which are simple and fairly fast. Unfortunately, because the yarn is a fluffy mohair blend, I will have to knit the i-cord rather than use my little gadget. I am too afraid that it would get caught and tangled.
