Fruits Basket

'Fruits Basket' is decidedly a cute anime. I was kind of miffed at the fact that my bf's friend is in the process of reading the series. He definately seems more of a guy's guy, including an extreme opinionated demeanor, but I gather so far that he doesn't altogether hate its girly-cute-kindness-promoting-little-self. Watching the anime, however, makes me feel a twinge of guilt for all the mean thoughts I have and how self-centered I seem to be. Then I think that Tohru, the main character, must be exhausted. Her ability to turn a bad situation good, to always think of other's feelings, and generally have a smile close at hand are all great qualities, but really, no living person could keep that up, could they?

I've watch the first twenty episodes and so far I have thought of two designs I could create. One design is a crocheted amigurumi rice ball! I have actually stitched one together and added a little face. I'll be working on writing up the design for it, but really, it wasn't difficult to create. I watched a video on Youtube about how to make a real rice ball, so that I could get the shape and size pretty close to the original. As Tohru would say, 'It's so cute!'

The second design I am working on is Tohru Honda's scarf. During some of the winter scenes, especially where she visits the Sohma estate, she is wearing a fuzzy orange and rasberry scarf. At first I thought, gross, who would wear that? I am really not a big fan of orange, though it is good as a juicy citrus-y snack. After looking at the color combination for a few frames, I thought that they went really well together, then immeadiately set to work wondering how the scarf might be constructed. That's when you know you've got to design it! My only fears in creating the scarf will be: 1) what if I don't find the exact shades of orange and rasberry that I want?! and 2) what if it looks like crap on me after I finish it? We'll see how that all goes, won't we?
